For years I’ve been saying that I wanted to write a book called “Common Sense… turns out it’s not so common.” (Don’t even think about stealing the title! haha)I’m not sure that my career as a writer is going to take off anytime soon, but I figured it would be an interesting addition to my blog and would fulfill my New Year’s Resolution to do more personal blogging. Plus my friends and family have been telling me for years I should do this.
The whole idea of the title started back when I was serving and bartending in college. Almost everyday I would encounter someone who would make me stop and go “Really?” or “Did that just happen?” or “I can’t believe they just asked for that. said that, did that”… the list goes on and on.
So I’m going to do my best to start doing one blog post a week on all the crazies and interesting or funny people that I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with in my life. Some will pertain to weddings and photography, and some won’t. Some may make you mad and some may make you laugh, but hopefully either way it will be at least mildly entertaining.
So for my Common Sense lesson I shall turn to the lunch I had yesterday with my friend Katy. We were chatting and catching up and all the sudden I looked up and saw something that made me forget completely what I was saying and instead say this “I’m sorry I have no idea what i was saying because the Statue of Liberty just walked in.” Yep that’s right… a lady dressed like lady liberty just coming in to pick up some take out. The only logical thing I could come up with was that she worked for the Liberty Tax place nearby (at least I hope).
Later that night I realized I was out of sweet and low and knew that if I didn’t have any for my coffee in the morning it would be a real situation. So I literally threw on the first things I saw and headed to CVS just down the road. When I walked in I saw a few people stop and stare at me. I looked down and realized I was wearing sweats, my fuzzy snow boots, a puffy vest with sweatshirt and my winter hat with earflaps and no makeup. I looked like a hot mess. I might as well have been wearing a Statue of Liberty costume because at least I would have matched….
Common Sense lesson #1 – If you don’t want to people stare at you like you’re crazy, don’t dress like a crazy person
Stay tuned for next weeks edition 🙂
What a weekend! I’ve been preparing for this weekend for months now, ordering prints and samples and promos (chapsticks 🙂 and building my wall (which will be in a later post about how I did that). All in all I think it was a successful weekend. I got to meet a lot of great new brides and see some familiar faces. It was great having a space next to the lovely Erin from The Mansion at Oak Hill. I have to also give a special thanks to the ladies of Sophia’s Bridal for grabbing me lunch on Saturday since I was flying solo at the booth it made it hard to leave. Also a thanks to my brother for his help building my wall and tearing everything down, and to my mom for helping me set up on Friday…. phew…
And onto the winners of the engagement sessions that I was giving away at my booth. I chose one winner from each day. Also remember that the first 3 Weddings booked from the show will also receive FREE engagement sessions!
DRUMROLL……… and the winners are:
Samantha and Jon Paul – 10/15/11
Rachel and Michael – Summer 2012
Congratulations!!!! If you are a winner you should have received an email from me.
Thanks to everyone for coming out and remember you can always email me anytime with questions or to set up a consultation – becky@beckybrownphotography.com

If you remember reading my post about Emily and Brian’s engagement session you will remember how much I love them. (see post here) I’m pretty sure we were destined to be friends. They both went to IU and incorporated some awesome red details and IU paraphanalia into the day. Even including a promise to remain together ” through the ups and downs of IU basketball” (which is very true this season).
They had their ceremony/reception at the gorgeous Omni Severin Hotel downtown. Being the middle of November you never really know what Indiana weather is going to through your way. Luckily it wasn’t absolutely freezing yet and we were able to sneak outside for some photos downtown. Thanks to the girls for toughing out the wind in strapless dresses 🙂 The ceremony was great and the dance floor was rocking all night long… complete with breakaway IU warmup pants from the bride…. just wait .. you’ll see….
Congrats to Emily and Brian 🙂
I figured what better way to start the blog than with a shot with Lucas Oil Stadium in the back since I’m writting this blog as I wait for the Colts playoff game to start. This is was the view off the balcony of the hotel room.

So to give you some background on this next photo Emily has been asking for these tearaway pinstripe IU pants for years… hinting at Brian to get them for her with no success. So she decided to go ahead and get a pair and she put them on right before he went for the garter. Needless to say it was a classic reaction….

Tamara - Becky, we all have these moments! I only shave when I know someone might notice, and I only wear makeup when I feel like I may run into someone attractive. I dress for comfort, not style, and ONLY style when I know someone may snap a stupid photo; because it will inevitably end up on Facebook. Still, you have NOTHING on Our Lady Liberty. That’s just silly. But I will continue to ready your silliness, because it will make me feel somewhat normal when I go out in my hideous rainboots, volleyball shorts, and pigtails. Thanks for the blog. Tamara
