Bucktown/ Logan Square Engagement Session: Katie + Jason 9/27/14

This was my favorite engagement session ever….. yep I said it. Now before I start getting angry emails let me explain.

I always ask my couples questions about them and where they would like to go for engagement photos. I always try to get ideas of what they like to do together or if there are any special locations in city (where the proposal happened, a favorite bookstore or coffee shop etc.) that they would like to go to. I totally understand wanting some Chicago skyline photos and the popular spots are popular for a reason. I could shoot in Chicago forever with all the amazing views, but I hate it when I hear my couple say ” Oh this is pretty, I’ve never been here” ….. sigh….

When I asked Katie these questions she already had so many ideas that we didn’t make it to all the spots! And that’s the reason I love this session the most. It is Chicago, but it’s not the Chicago that I’ve shot so many times. It’s the Chicago that Katie and Jason live in. It’s their neighborhood and the local places they go, the streets they walk the dog on,  and it’s full of awesomeness (that’s a word right?!). This session was so 100% them. Granted they don’t always ride around town on a tandem bicyle, but they are big bikers so it was still fitting. I met them at their place and we took Blue out for a walk, we did some photos with the bike, we drank some local beers at a graffiti wall in the area (Jason is currently taking a brewing course!) and ended the evening where they went on their first date and where he proposed. It was perfect because it was personal and unique to them which how I wish every session would be!

Thank you Jason and Katie for being you 🙂 I can’t not wait to shoot your July wedding in Michigan!

Here are some of my favorites!

Meet their dog Blue….. he’s pretty awesome 🙂

Kenilworth Club Wedding : Cathy + Matt 9/20/14

I’m super behind on blogging, but I’m excited to share this amazing September wedding with you!

I shot Cathy and Matt’s engagement session in the West Loop just a couple of weeks before the wedding so I’ve decided to combine it into one blog post. We wandered around their neighborhood and got some shots in with their dog before heading downtown for a few night photos.

The wedding was at the gorgeous Kenilworth Club. Although mother nature required us to move their beach ceremony inside we were able to head down there post ceremony for sunset photos as the rain let up. We had a great time shooting this wedding and dance floor was rocking!! If you ask me that’s always the sign of a fun wedding!

There are some of my favorites from their engagement session and wedding day!

Lincoln Park Engagement Session : Kristen + Patrick

I fell in love with these two at our first meeting! Kristen is a fellow IU grad (Go Hoosiers) and after chatting for awhile we realized we had some friends in common… it’s a small world! I think Pat really enjoyed listening to us swap college stories haha. So naturally I was thrilled when they hired me to be their wedding photographer!

But first comes the engagement session of course. We met at Lincoln Park on a gorgeous fall day for some photos before heading out by the Planetarium for some skyline photos. I think it dropped about 20 degrees from the time we left Lincoln Park to the time we got out to Museum Campus.. no joke. I’ve shot out there many times and I’ve never experienced such crazy wind! I have to give a big thanks to them for toughing it out! You hopefully can’t tell in the photos, but they were frozen by the time we finished, but the sky looked so amazing I’m glad we stuck it out!

I can’t wait for their May wedding! And if I’ve gained 20 pounds by then it is because they got me addicted to a Mexican places near where I live and I crave it all the time now!
