Notre Dame Wedding: Kate + Josh – South Bend, IN 6/27/14

Welcome to the beautiful wedding of Kate and Josh! They are recent grads of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s and now live in Seattle, but it was an easy choice to return to South Bend to tie the knot!

I’ve had brides that wear their up and down. Some are simple and some are complex styles, but Kate is the first bride that I’ve had who decided to chop several inches off her hair the morning off the wedding! I have to give her props to having the guts to do it because I have issues just loosing 2 inches! It was super cute though and a suprise to everyone!

Their ceremony was at the GORGEOUS Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of Notre Dame. Although I’ve shot here one other time I am still awed by the beauty of this church. The campus itself also provides gorgeous backgrounds for photos 🙂 We made a couple stops on both campuses before heading off the the Century Center for the reception. With floor to ceiling windows this place was a natural light photographer’s dream! I forgot about the time change and I was really confused when it was still light until almost 9:30, but I couldn’t complain!

Here are some of my favorites from their day. Congrats to Kate and Josh!

Wedding at Wilder Park and Oak Brook Bath & Tennis Club: Alyssa + Mike 6/21/14

I get couples planning from all over the place and many from out of state, but Alyssa and Mike take the cake for furthest couple away as they planned the big day from Germany!

With help from family and friends locally they put together an absolutely gorgeous day! We started at Wilder Mansion where everyone was getting ready. This place is amazing! I would love to shoot there again (hint hint for anyone reading this! ).  After a wonderful first look we explored the park for photos. Their ceremony was on the grounds at Wilder Park. Their ceremony photos are some of my favorites of the day. Their smiles, laughter and expressions were contagious.

There was a threat of rain and storms looming all day, but none as apparent as when we ended the ceremony and looked up to find dark clouds rolling in. Luckily everyone was able to get in their cars before the torrential downpour came. I’m starting to think I’m cursed when I shoot at Wilder Park because last time we were there we got stuck in pouring rain as well!

But a little rain wasn’t going to stop the festivities at the Oak Brook Bath & Tennis club. Although the cocktail hour was moved inside guests enjoyed mingling and popping in the photo booth complete with cardboard cutouts of the couples cat! Robyn and I definitely got in there for some photos!

Congratulations to Alyssa and Mike and thank you for allowing us to be a part of your day! Here are some of my favorites from their day!

This might have been one of the coolest details we’ve seen. This white fabric was part of a parachute from WWII and was also used  to create Alyssa’s grandmothers dress you see in the photos. She wraped a piece around her bouquet to carry for the day!

Sometimes you need a little help from your girls!

Salvatore’s Wedding : Maryna + Ryan – Chicago, IL 5/30/14

Settle in for this blog post, because it’s going to be a long one. You may remember Ryan and Maryna from their amazing engagment session (you can see that HERE). I knew this wedding was going to be blast since I basically knew the entire wedding party. My boyfriend is long time friends with Ryan and a groomsman in this wedding. So I knew Ryan before he even met Maryna.  I have to say that as soon they started dating  you could tell he was head over heels for her!  And I’d say he chose wonderfully because Maryna is one of the sweetest people I’ve met!

I am lucky to have gotten to know her better as they dated as well as some of her awesome friends (since I already knew most of Ryan’s friends).  It’s not often that I shoot a wedding in which I’m involved in all the pre wedding activites, but I’m thinking maybe I should crash these events because it’s so fun to know everyone beforehand! Hilary and I spent some quality time together at the bridal shower as myself and Michelle tried to make her a wedding gown out of toilet paper… it didn’t go well haha. And I attended the tasting with them and a few others to narrow down choices. It doesn’t hurt that I live a street over from the venue haha. I attend the rehearsal (which is rare as half the time I have shoots the night before a wedding), so I got to meet the church coordinators and Sandy from Splendid events the night before to make sure we had all the final details squared away.

When the wedding day rolled around I knew it was going to be amazing! We started the day at Club Quarters hotel where everyone was getting ready before the ceremony at St. James. From there it was trolley time for some photos in the West Loop near the Kinzie Bridge. I love the contrast of this area! A quick stop at Lincoln Park and we were off to the reception at Salvatore’s.  I remember talking about venues with Maryna when they first got engaged and they wanted something ” Old Chicago” . I think they nailed with Salvatore’s! It’s an amazing intimate venue nestled in Lincoln Park with wonderful Italian food that has been in business for decades. These two didn’t stop smiling and laughing the whole day and the photos of the toasts are very true to how they are all the time.  Guests traveled from all over the world to be there and it was very apparent how surrounded by love these two are.

Thank you so much to Ryan and Maryna for allowing me to capture your wedding day! I look forward to watching your relationship grow and probably sharing many bottles of wine together in the future! Cheers!

** A special thanks to Michelle and Amanda for helping me with some lighting after I let my assistant leave!

Yes they unknowingly bought each other the same pre-wedding card!

A bonus of having two photographers is that we were both able to capture these moments!

Ryan might kill me for posting this photo, but I love it 🙂
