2013 Favorites : Couples Choices

So I thought I was done with this series and then I thought why not let my couples choose their favorite photo for one final post?! It’s not fair that I get to have all the fun!

Here are their favorite photos and a little bit about why they chose it. This was really intersting for me as so many of them were the runner up to the one I posted in my original favorites blog! Enjoy!

Carrie & Ben – “I love the lighting, the black and white and the way the Nick’s light is showing the bar name”

Krista & Billy – “I have always dreamed of taking wedding pictures in the middle of Michigan Avenue. I worked on Michigan Avenue at 19 and watched al the brides take pictures there.  I knew one day that would be me.  I could not afford to have a reception downtown, but I could afford tomake my dreams come true by having the ceremony downtown and having my pictures there.

On the wedding video Jack captures me in action seeing this picture for the first time when Becky showed it to me. I screamed “OH MY GOD” I love that I have the picture and I have the reaction.  Thanks girl!”

** Sidenote – Krista wanted to do this photo with her heels on!!! I said no way as I didn’t want to be responsbile for a broken ankle on her wedding day!!

Melissa & Matt – Esession : “We both absolutely love this photo because it’s very genuine & shows both the skyline & the park in background! “

Elizabeth & Andy : “This photo shows a great, candid moment of the day for us. Listening to our friends and family during the (hilarious!) speeches was such a special part of the day, and I love that there’s a picture that captured our reactions. It takes me back to that moment every time I look at it!”

Gina & David: “I had been dreading the possibility of rain (even though it’s supposed to be good luck) and wanted everything to be perfect that day (who doesn’t?), but in the end, all that mattered was that Dave and I married each other and enjoyed our wedding day.  And we certainly did… We were able to smile and laugh while running in the rain, all while not even realizing you were catching that special moment. :)”

Morgan & Mike:  “I love that picture because it was natural and romantic and captured the theme of the night classic elegance”

For my couples that did their engagement session and wedding both in 2013 I let them pick one favorite from each.

Rebecca & Nathan Engagement Session : “We loved this picture because it captured us being natural and goofy together like we are every day. “

Rebecca & Nathan Wedding: “The color in this picture is stunning and we love this because it captures how perfectly happy we were that day.”

Jessica & Zach Wedding (shot by Allie): “This is my favorite photograph, not only because it was the moment we were both waiting for, but I love the way his right hand is tangled in my veil, the way we are holding one another, and my step-grandfather in the background, wiping away his tears. “

Keri & Blaine: “Blaine says it is his favorite because my face is amazing.  lol. j/k.  He likes our facial expressions.  The peacefulness.  I also feel like it has an intimacy to it as well.”

Tisha & Matt :  “I had a difficult time choosing which one is my FAVORITE photo from the wedding, but I finally selected number 312. It’s a black and white photo of me and Matt at Nightwood. Why you may ask? It is here that Matt and I exchanged our vows, said our “I do’s,” and presented each other with our rings. In this particular photo you see a small setting for our family, but the moment captured is just the two of us. When I look at this photo I see a couple lost in the moment, who are surrounded by people who support them. I selected the black and white photo because it gives a more rustic feel which I find to be very romantic.”

Nermin & Jehad:  “This picture encapsulates a classic Syrian tradition in every engagement/ wedding  — raising the bride and groom on chairs as they attempt to dance! It was weird (and slightly scary) but we enjoyed every second of it 🙂

It was also great to see all the wonderful family members and friends who made it all the way from Canada, Germany, California, Arizona, Dubai and Saudi Arabia, which made our engagement more of a family reunion… Truly a blessing to have had them all present and a bigger blessing that you, Becky, joined us and captured this moment :)”

Backyard Engagement Party : Nermin and Jehad

Brace yourself for some seriously amazing DIY backyard engagement party! Nermin and Jehad put this together in TWO WEEKS…. two weeks people?! I wish everyone would start throwing amazing parties like this and of course inviting me to photograph them!

I was thrilled when they contacted me, but I thought for sure they had to have the date wrong. How could they pull off an engagement party for a large group from stratch in two weeks with catering, flowers, decorating etc. Well not only did they pull it off they blew everyone’s minds! I should have taken into consideration that Nermin is an amazing graphic designer and DIY expert. And when Jehad told me it would be held in his parents backyard he forgot to mentioned that is wasn’t any backyard, it was THE backyard to hold an event!

Here are some of my favorites from their party! It was a blast getting to know them and their families as they celebrated their engagement!

Flowers: Steve’s Flower Market
Cupcakes: West Town Bakery http://www.westtownbakery.com/

We still did a “first look” because a) I love them and b) it’s always fun to get dressed up and do a big reveal no matter what the occasion!

Then we did a little mini session as their friends and family were arriving….. seriously people these were all shot right behind the house… I want to live there!

And brace yourselves for some details 🙂

As part of their candy table they had locally farmed honey as a treat for their guests to take home…. yum!

Everyone needed to work up an appetite before dinner and obviously dancing is the best way to do that!

As the sun started to set the space became this dreamy wonderland of candlight. Nermin did such a wonderful job with lighting that I had to reshoot the details!

They have friends and family all over the world and as a surprise some of them sent video messages congratulating them….

I laughed, I cried and I didn’t even know anyone so you can only imagine what everyone else’s reaction was!

And lastly as always a photo of me with the lucky couple! Thank you for letting be a part of the party!
