I always tell my couples that their engagement session should be about them and what they like to do as a couple. It doesn’t have to be overly posed or you staying in a field of wildflowers if that’s never something you’d do.
So when they told me they love to work out together we hit the gym…. literally! I met them at their apartment to attempt some photos with their pets, Sam and Toews. Like most brothers and sisters they don’t always get along. And this day was no exception. They were not thrilled about taking photos together, but their interaction made it real!
Then we headed upstairs to the gym. You may notice their shirts are a shout out to their love of the show Friends. We did some curls, some push ups and then decided it was time to hit the riverwalk to end our day with some photos in the city. It was oddly cold for the middle of May. But we walked a bit stopping every 5 seconds when I’d go “Oh, what about this… ” until they were practically frozen and we called it day.
Stay tuned for their intimate wedding at Little Goat Diner!

I was about to blog Ryan and Vanessa’s wedding when I realized I never shared their engagement session!
This was basically the tale of two seasons. We started at the Lincoln Park Conservatory where it’s basically summer year round. We roamed the different rooms and soaked in the warmth before going out for part two. In reality it was January in Chicago which mean cold, cold and more cold! It was about 10 degrees out (no joke). We trying to cuddle up and keep moving as we did some very quick photos around the South Pond area in Lincoln Park.
Here are some of my favorites! Stay tuned for their wedding blog later this week!

Everyone take note. This is how you do an engagement session. You don’t need elaborate set ups. You don’t need to spend hours pouring over locations and pinterest only to end up somewhere that neither of you have ever been before.
I’ve always preached that you should do what feels like you guys as a couple. What do you like to do? Great! Let’s do that!
In this case Andrea and Will came down to Chicago from Toronto as they do a few times a year. They often catch concerts or explore the many breweries, so they’ve spent time exploring Wicker Park and love the neighborhood. So that’s what we did!
We started at Emporium Chicago for some drinks and arcade games. We wandered around, checked out the local street art. Snapped some photos, had some laughs and ended at Lottie’s (aka Molly’s from Chicago Fire) for beers. And it was the best day!
It doesn’t have to be complicated. It just need to be about the two of you and it will be great!
